WRESTLING IS CONSIDERED AN INDIVIDUAL SPORT BUT HAS MANY OF THE BENEFITS OF PARTICIPATING IN A  TEAM  SPORT.

  • AS A WRESTLER DURING COMPETITION, YOUR CHILD MUST RELY ENTIRELY ON THEIR OWN INDIVIDUAL TALENTS AND ABILITIES TO BE SUCCESSFUL.

  • HOWEVER, TEAM VICTORIES IN MEETS AND TOURNAMENTS DEPENDS ON THE SUCCESS OF THE INDIVIDUALS AND WHETHER EACH MATCH WAS WON OR LOST.

What does my child learn from wrestling?
  • AS A RESULT WRESTLERS DEVELOP AN APPRECIATION AND MUTUAL RESPECT FOR THEIR TEAMMATES.
  • THEY UNDERSTAND THE CHALLENGES THAT EACH PERSON FACES ONCE THEY STEP ON TO THE MAT.
  • WRESTLING ALLOWS YOUR CHILD TO DEVELOP A SENSE OF RESPONSIBILITY TO THEMSELVES AS WELL AS THEIR TEAM.
  • IN ADDITION, IT WILL BUILD SELF-CONFIDENCE AND SELF-ESTEEM.

Are there different types of wrestling styles?

THERE ARE TWO INTERNATIONAL WRESTLING STYLES PERFORMED IN THE OLYMPIC GAMES: FREESTYLE AND GRECO-ROMAN.  A SIMILAR STYLE, KNOWN AS COLLEGIATE OR FOLKSTYLE, IS PRACTICED IN SECONDARY SCHOOLS, COLLEGES, AND YOUNGER AGE GROUPS IN THE UNITED STATES.

FREESTYLE AND GRECO-ROMAN DIFFER IN RULES, SCORING AND STRATEGY. FREESTYLE AND GRECO-ROMAN FOCUS MORE ON WRESTLING FROM THE FEET AND GRECO-ROMAN IS LIMITED TO UPPER-BODY HOLDS.  FOLKSTYLE, PLACES EMPHASIS ON MORE MAT WRESTLING AND ESTABLISHING CONTROL.
