I recently participated in a
fundraiser that used an online tool to organize donations and volunteer
schedules. I found it to be an easy way to handle this task that
can sometimes seem overwhelming. The tool that they used was
SignUpGenius.com. This website is awesome for parties,
fundraisers, sports snack lists and even teacher conferences.
What is SignUpGenius.com?
It is a free service that allows you
to post your customize sign up sheets online. It can be used for
schedules or donation items. It is easy to use and extremely
flexible. You simply create a list of jobs and the number of
volunteers needed for each. It is much more convenient than using
sheets of paper, emails or phone calls to get organized.
Once you create your sign-up lists it
can be viewed by everyone. People can jump online and sign up 24
hours a day, 7 days a week. Everyone can see at any given time the
items that still need volunteers. Often it will act as a stimulus to get
them to volunteer when they see what others are doing to help.
How to Get Started...
You begin by setting up an account on
SignUpGenius.com . To create an
account you need to enter your first and last name, gender, country, zip
code, email address and password.
The sign up selection process is menu
driven and as simple as selecting templates and answering questions. You
will need to select the type of sign up that you are creating:
Party or potluck sign up is used
when the event takes place in one day.
Volunteers or people sign up when
the person's presence is needed.
Food or munchies sign up is used
when an physical item (like food) is required.
In addition, you will need to provide
the following information.
Name of your group which is the
name that describes the set of people that will access your sign up.
Title of your sign up
Any instructions or details about
Date and time of the event
Select a template and create a
list of what you are requesting in detail. For instance
if you need donuts it should be listed as 1 dozen donuts. You will
then enter the number of people that you want to each bring 1 dozen
Email addresses of everyone in
your group if you plan on using the email feature.
You will be given the option to
preview your list and make corrections before it is submitted.
Once complete you will have a link to provide to all volunteers or you
can simply give them the website and they can search based on the list
creator's email address.
