Herr's Factory Tour Information and
Review

Herr's Potato
Chip Factory is located in Nottingham PA. It
is home to the manufacturer of snack foods
such
as potato
chips, corn chips, tortilla chips, popcorn batches, cheese curls, and
pretzels . They offer great
guided tours of the plant to the public. It is a real factory, with
real workers and you will see the real process. I have been here on a
few occasions with different age groups of children and it has been fun
for all.
Cost and Reservations...
The cost is
free and reservations are required. Tours are on the hour from Monday -
Thursday and limited times on Friday.
If
you are interested in seeing particular products, such as tortilla chips
or cheese curls, call ahead for the production schedule on day of your
visit.
They do have a cafe so you can stay for lunch.
The gift shop
sells Herr's food products and I would absolutely recommend the
chocolate covered potato chips.
Tour
Details...
The
tour is a
learning experience for all. It
begins in an auditorium where
you will view a short movie about the Herr family and how they started
their business many years ago. You
then
proceed on
your way through the highly automated plant where you watch,
behind glass panels,
the process of
how they make their
snack products.
You will
see first hand the product being created from the raw ingredients all
the way to packaging. The
aroma in the air is awesome.
Along the way
your guide will give you some interesting facts about the process,
the company, and
Herr’s recycling efforts.
The best part of
the trip is that they
give samples of warm potato chips that they get right off the
conveyer belt.
The tour will take one hour.
Other Events...
The
Herr's four-acre headquarters is transformed into a winter wonderland
every year. You will absolutely enjoy their amazing Christmas light
display. Your family will be dazzled by over 100,000 gleaming
twinkle lights strung around the Herr's grounds. Sites include decorated
trees, large snowflakes, Christmas balls, a nativity scene, and 12-foot
wreath and giant bow in front of the snack factory warehouse.
It is a free driving tour and it is open from November 25 until New
Year's Day.
