Many parents, including myself, feel the need to create healthy Easter Baskets for their children.  Homemade baskets are a way to give your child a personalized basket that they will love and you can control what is in it.  If you start early and ship wisely this does not have to be too expensive.  When you are making your purchasing think of things that you will have to go out and purchase for them over the next 3 month anyway.  I have in the past tried to come up with unique ideas for my kids baskets and I am sharing them with you on this page.  I do always however include just a few pieces of candy to make them feel like they are getting a little of everything in their basket. 

I am traditional when it comes to Easter so I purchased beautiful wicker baskets for each child their first Easter and I use the same one each year.  If you want to be creative you always have the option to do a theme basket and to purchase something "theme" oriented to house the goodies.  Some theme ideas include:

  • Beach or Pool Basket -- Use a sand bucket or beach bag to hold treats.

  • Garden  Basket -- Use a plastic wheel barrel or flower pot for the goodies.

  • Spring Basket -- Consider a small wagon for this theme.

  • Sports Basket -- Use a bike helmet, Football helmet, Baseball cap, batters bag or duffel bag as a basket.

  • Dress Up Basket -- Use a small trunk for girls or a Construction hat for boys.

  • Movie Basket -- Use a plastic popcorn bowl.

  • Beauty Queen -- Use a Vera Bradley bag, purse or decorative box.

  • Cars and Trucks Theme  -- A plastic dump truck would be great for this one.

  • Mommy's helper --  Use a doll stroller to hold the goodies.

  • Arts and Crafts --  A backpack would be great for this one.

  • Vacation theme -- Use a beach bag.

  • Camera Buff or Scrapbook theme --  A decorative box to hold goodies

  • Other ideas : Decorated paint can, storage containers, gift bags, storage locker bins, canvas tote bags.

If you go with the theme idea purchase items from the list below that will compliment your theme.  I have at one time or another used all of these items and I have happy campers every Easter.  Don't forget to fill it with decorative grass and to wrap it in cellophane and place a beautiful bow/ribbon on it.
