  Why Play Board Games?

In our age of technology with home video systems and online games the traditional board game seems to have dropped in popularity over the past few years. So the question "Why play board games?" is an important one to answer.

Games Are fun...

The most obvious reason is that they're fun and most people enjoy them. They love the challenge and competition involved with the game.  It is a very inexpensive way to create family fun.  You can make it real interesting by creating teams and then keeping track of how many games each team wins each month.  Losing team buys ice cream for the family at the end of the month.

Games Are Social...

In addition, board games have a social aspect because they provide an opportunity to gather with others to spend quality time together.  It allows you to communicate, laugh and enjoy each others company.

Games Are A Learning Tool...

They force us to think, use our intellect, and develop and sharpen skills, which aid us in many other facets of life.  They can be used as a developmental tool for children to help them to develop number recognition and counting, letter identification, colors, and fine motor skills.  In addition,  they will improve basic social skills such as  communicating verbally, sharing, waiting, taking turns, and enjoying interaction with others.

Games Can Be A Family Affair...

Board games can be  "family entertainment" as well as a teaching and/or learning tool. What your child wants and needs most is to be with you with no goal in mind beyond the joy of spending time together. Playing games is an easy and excellent way to spend unhurried, enjoyable time together with your children.  Family game time creates memories for your children that they will treasure later in life.
